This policy explains what personal data we process on microplaygames.com and in the MicroPlay app, why, for how long and how you can exercise your rights.

Who we are

MicroPlay is a platform of Better Skills Lda, a company registered in Portugal under number 510047912, with registered office at Rua Coro de Santo Amaro de Oeiras 4A, 2780-040 Oeiras, Portugal, registered at the Lisbon Commercial Registry.

For any question about personal data, email comercial@better-skills.com or call +351 910 209 299.

This policy covers the microplaygames.com website and the game app at microplaygames.com/app. The general Better Skills privacy policy, for courses and the better-skills.com website, is at better-skills.com/privacidade (in Portuguese).

Two different roles

On the website, Better Skills is the controller of the data you send us, for example when you book a demo.

In the game app, when Better Skills runs a game for a client company, that company decides who plays and what the results are used for. The company is the controller and Better Skills processes the data on its behalf, as a processor, under the contract and Article 28 of the GDPR. In that case, requests about your data should go first to the company that invited you; if you write to us, we will pass the request on and help answer it.

For demo games and games Better Skills runs on its own behalf, Better Skills is the controller.

What data we process

On the website

  • Demo requests and enquiries: name, company, work email, approximate number of participants and, if you tell us, the topic you want your team to retain.
  • Technical access data: when you visit the site, the hosting provider logs technical data such as your IP address, the date and the page requested, which is needed to deliver pages and protect the service.

The website uses no advertising cookies and no audience measurement tools. Fonts are served from the site itself.

In the game app

  • Identification: email, the name you choose to show in the game, team (if the game has teams) and the access code you used to join.
  • Game activity: answers given, response time, helps used, score, level, medals, day streak, rounds played and leaderboard position.
  • Memory model: for each question, the history of your answers, used to decide when the question should come back.
  • Technical data: a random session identifier and the technical access data logged by the hosting providers.

The app does not ask for sensitive data and does not use your data for advertising or for automated decisions with legal effects on you.

Purpose Legal basis (GDPR, Article 6)
Answering demo requests and preparing proposals Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in answering business enquiries
Giving access to the game, saving progress and choosing the questions in each round Performance of the contract with the client company; for Better Skills’ own games, performance of the game terms of use
Showing the leaderboard, individual and by team, to people playing the same game Performance of the contract with the client company, which decides whether the game has a leaderboard
Showing the client company the training results (participation, progress, hardest questions, Excel export) Performance of the contract with the client company
Protecting the service against abuse, for example limiting wrong code attempts Legitimate interest in keeping the platform secure
Complying with legal obligations Legal obligation

We do not send marketing to players. We only send commercial information to people who booked a demo if they consented to it, and consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Who sees your data

  • Other players in the same game: see the name you chose to show, your score and your leaderboard position. They do not see your email.
  • The client company: through the admin panel, sees the results of the people playing its games, including email and name.
  • Better Skills: the team that runs the platform, with restricted, password-protected access.

Service providers

We use providers that process data only on our instructions and under a data processing agreement:

Provider Service Data location
Convex, Inc. App database and functions Data centre in the European Union (Ireland)
Vercel Inc. Hosting and delivery of the website and the app Global network with points of presence in the European Union
Google LLC (Google Fonts) Fonts chosen by the client company for its game, loaded by the app Global network
OpenRouter, Inc. Artificial intelligence help for the administrator to write questions from texts United States

The artificial intelligence service only receives the text and instructions the administrator writes to generate questions. It receives no player data.

When a provider is outside the European Economic Area or may access data from there, the transfer relies on the safeguards set out in the GDPR, such as an adequacy decision (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for certified companies) or the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

We do not sell or rent personal data.

How long we keep data

  • Demo requests: up to 2 years after the last contact if they do not lead to a contract; if they do, for the duration of the contract and the legal periods that follow.
  • Game data: while the game is active. When the client company asks us to delete a game, or the contract ends, we delete the game and all data of the people who played it: sign-ups, rounds, answers, progress, statistics and sessions. Provider backups are erased in those providers’ normal cycles.
  • App session: the session identifier expires after 90 days without use.
  • Technical access data: for the period set by the hosting providers for security and diagnostics.

Storage on your device

The app stores in your browser’s local storage, not in cookies, only what it needs to work:

  • the game session, so you do not have to enter the code every time you open the app;
  • your sound on or off preference;
  • the date you dismissed the invitation to install the app on your phone, so it does not reappear for a week;
  • for administrators, the admin session.

These are strictly necessary for the service you asked for, so they do not require consent. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings or by signing out of the game.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access your data and get a copy;
  • ask for inaccurate data to be corrected;
  • ask for your data to be erased;
  • ask for processing to be restricted;
  • receive your data in a structured, commonly used format (portability);
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest;
  • withdraw consent, where processing is based on it, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise these rights, email comercial@better-skills.com. We reply within one month at the latest, extendable in the cases the GDPR allows. If you play at a company’s invitation, you can also send your request directly to that company.

If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados (CNPD), at cnpd.pt, or with the authority in the EU country where you live.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the website and the app, game access by code and random session, limits on wrong code attempts, password-protected admin access and separation of data by game. No system is infallible, but we review these measures whenever the platform changes.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the platform or the law changes. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page. If the change is significant, we will say so on the website or in the app.
